HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES
Welcome to Fishwick Primary School
This information booklet is designed to help you understand the measures in place to protect your health, safety and security, and that of our children, during your visit to our school.
Please read these instructions carefully and have a safe visit to the school. You are required to sign a register to acknowledge that you have received this information. If you require any assistance during your visit contact reception or speak with the nearest member of staff.
Health and safety
The school aims to provide a safe and healthy working environment. All activities must be performed with due concern for safety. Please report any concerns or suggestions regarding health and safety to the Head Teacher.
Safeguarding children
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We expect all staff, visitors and volunteers to share this commitment. If you have a safeguarding concern please contact one of our DSL’s:
Mrs Conway, Mrs Garnham or Miss walker.
If a child discloses they are being harmed remember to stay calm and controlled.
- Remember not show surprise or shock
-Do not promise it will be kept confidential but make sure to reassure them
-Do not ask any leading questions.
-Record what the child says exactly in their words. Record sheets are available in the staffroom. Make sure it has the date and time and pass it along to the DSL’s.
Disabled visitors
If you are disabled and feel that you may require assistance during an evacuation of the building, please advise the staff at the school office when you sign in, so that arrangements can be made to assist your evacuation.
Equality Scheme
In accordance with our school vision and relevant
legislation, we pledge to respect the equal human rights of all our pupils, staff and visitors to school and promote equality of opportunity. We ask that during your visit you adhere to the same principles.
Smoking
Smoking and vaping is not permitted on the school site, all buildings and the grounds are included.
Security
Please keep briefcases, laptops and bags with you at all times whilst in the school. Also keep personal belongings and paperwork safe. Visitors are advised not to leave valuables in the car if this is unavoidable, you are advised to lock them out of sight in your boot.
Mobile Phones
Mobile phones should be switched off on arrival at the school. If there are exceptional circumstances which require you to keep your phone switched on please contact the Headteacher to seek permission and discuss the limitations of mobile phone use.
Confidentiality
Working in a school is a privileged position. Any information you hear or see whilst on the premises must be kept confidential. Please share any concerns you have with the class teacher or Headteacher.
Fire safety for visitors
- On discovering a fire:
- Break the nearest glass cover to activate the fire alarm
- Evacuate the building by the nearest fire exit and assemble on the school playground at the front of school.
- Only tackle a fire if you are competent to do so.
- Do not return to the building until told to do so by the emergency services/Headteacher.
On hearing the fire alarm
- Leave the building by the nearest fire exit and assemble on the front school playground
- Report to the Head teacher.
Movement of vehicles on site
All vehicles on site should stick to the speed limit of 5mph.
Signing in
On arrival you will be asked to sign the visitors’ book and will be given a visitor badge. You will be required to wear this badge at all times. When leaving the school please sign out.
Bomb threats and other warnings
Please ensure that you keep all packages, briefcases and laptop cases with you at all times.
If you see a suspicious object, DO NOT TOUCH IT: inform the school office immediately.
In the event of a decision to evacuate the building as a result of a bomb threat or other incident the fire alarm will sound continuously.
First Aid
For all first aid requirements, advise a member of staff about the injury and the location of the injured person. A trained first aider will be sent to the scene.
All accidents must be reported and forms are available from the school office for this.
